Annual fees reminder
Annual fees for architects, architectural companies and partnerships are due by 1 July each year.

Practising and Non-Practising Architects

The Regulations provide for two categories of architect for registration and annual fees. Both categories may use the title of ARCHITECT.

Practising architects are registered to provide architectural services that lead directly to the design of buildings or parts of buildings. As a condition of registration, practising architects must have Professional Indemnity insurance cover in respect of their work as an architect.

Non-practising architects have elected for a range of reasons, (including retirement, overseas work/travel, maternity leave etc ) to register in this category and have signed a declaration that they will not practice as an architect in Victoria for the period of that registration. This declaration is on the annual fee invoice and is renewed each year as required. Architects in this list are not required to provide evidence of Professional Indemnity insurance cover. Architects on this list may convert their registration to Practising at any time by providing the fee balance of $135 and evidence that they have PI insurance cover in their own right or through their employer.

The Register of architects is in two parts: ‘Practising’ and ‘Non-practising’

The Register of approved architectural companies contains those companies that comply with the requirement that at least one Director is an architect covered by Professional Indemnity insurance.

The Register of approved architectural Partnerships contains those Partnerships that comply with the requirement that at least one Partner is an architect covered by Professional Indemnity insurance.
