The ARBV Architectural Services Award

The emphasis of this Award is on excellence of service to clients. It is not a design Award. Satisfied clients play a major role in the Award process, beginning with nomination of their architect.

To be eligible, Architects or Firms should have one nomination.

The Architects Registration Board of Victoria launched its inaugural Architectural Services Award in 2004.

The Award has been very successful with over 100 architects being nominated in its first two years.

The Board is pleased to publicly acknowledge architects' excellent service to clients.
Clients of architects may obtain a nomination form from their architect or direct from the Board.

Aims of the Award

The award has been developed as part of the Board's charter to promote excellence in professional service provided by registered architects in Victoria.

The ARBV often receives enquiries regarding the services provided by architects and has designed the award criteria around common areas of uncertainty and complaint, which, invariably do not focus on design.

The Board, considers that the criteria of the Architectural Services Award reflect the expectations of clients and the community with regard to professional services provided by architects.

The Board reviewed the characteristics of good architectural service to create an award that focuses on the architect's ability to meet the clients' needs in areas of information and communication, design processes, management and contractual fulfilment.

Through the promotion of this award, the ARBV seeks to alert both the public and profession to the high-quality service available from architects and encourage architects to maintain their level of service in these key areas.

Eligibility

The Architectural Services Award is open to all architects registered in Victoria. To be eligible for this award, the architect or firm must have a client nomination for a project completed in the last two years.

The award will be judged by an expert panel of architects, consumers and industry professionals appointed by the ARBV.

To nominate their architect, clients should complete the ARBV Architectural Services Client Evaluation form available from their architect or the ARBV. Nominations should be sent directly to the ARBV by the nomination closing date.

The winning architect, announced at a special award ceremony to be held in December each year, will receive $5000 and a framed certificate of excellence. The client also will receive a framed certificate.

To complement the Architectural Services Award, the ARBV has developed a brochure, Working With Your Architect, which outlines the services, roles and responsibilities of architects. It also provides advice to clients about their roles and responsibilities when working with an architect – all common areas of enquiry to the ARBV.

Architects can provide the brochure to clients as a summary of the architectural process or clients may obtain the brochure from the ARBV directly or via the ARBV website.

For further information about the Architectural Services Award or the Working With Your Architect brochure contact the ARBV on (03) 9417 4444.
